The famous fashion historian owns two houses built in the XIX century, which he acquired in the Auvergne region, located 500 km from Paris. Vasiliev himself says that he simply fell in love with this old French village, where people live a simple, settled life.

Everything is arranged in his houses as in the 19th century, there is no telephone, Internet and television. Vasiliev managed to make many friends among the neighbors. Alexander acquired his houses in a village in the Auvergne region in 2002. During this time, he was able to create in them unique interiors of the era of France of the XIX century. Vasiliev liked this lesson so much that in 2016 he acquired a third house. He buys old houses with abandoned plots. He cleaned one of them from blackberry thickets.

In each of his houses, he creates a unique atmosphere, developing a design and selecting household items. Being a historian and art critic, Vasiliev is well versed in antiques. To equip his home in France, he uses only authentic household items that he buys from French antique dealers.

Village houses look alike. They have two floors. The first has two windows, and the second has three. The first floor is reserved for the living room and kitchen-dining room.The living room is furnished with mahogany furniture from 1815-1840. On the upper floor there are three bedrooms and a bathroom. Single wooden beds are also antique.

All the walls in the houses are decorated with real paintings and engravings by provincial French artists of that era. Particularly noteworthy is the kitchen, which has a real wood cast-iron stove. However, Vasiliev does not use it, since he has gas in his house. This is the only achievement of modern civilization that the historian uses in his daily life when he comes to his French possessions.

In his houses, he has several items that were owned by the famous French designer Else Schiaparelli: canapes and a mirror of Venetian glass. Vasiliev loves to acquire memorial items from famous fashion figures of past eras in his collections.

The living room has a chic fireplace, an old chest of drawers. This room houses a unique collection of watches from the Napoleonic era, the case of which is made of gilt bronze. The clock gives the living room a special charm.

In his French possessions, Vasilyev rests from popularity. By his own admission, he has to be under the scrutiny of journalists and fans for 10 months a year. In the French countryside, no one knows him, which allows him to fully enjoy peace and relaxation and makes it possible to be alone with himself.
