Where is InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland located

More than 60 years ago, on the site of an unusual hotel was a granite mining mine. Now there is not a quarry abandoned by people, but a real hotel, which became the first underground in the world. It is located in a suburb of Shanghai, in the so-called Wonderland. This is the only hotel on a global scale that does not rise above the earth, but, on the contrary, hides in its depths.

How many floors

Going down to minus 16 floor, you can look at real sharks. The total depth of the hotel is 88 meters. Specialists, as well as architects, unanimously reiterated that it was not possible to build a hotel on the site of an abandoned quarry for the production of granite.

But, as we can see in the photo, it is literally built into an abandoned mine. The Chinese could do it! Despite the fact that from the side of the road it is impossible to see the walls of an unusual hotel, since its top is almost on a level with the ground, the total area of the site is 428,200 square meters. The hotel consists of 16 floors.

All elevators located in the hotel are panoramic. At the top of the world's first underground hotel there is an unusual bridge for pedestrians made of glass, unusual for us, but already familiar to residents of the Middle Kingdom.

The idea of the hotel arose in 2005, but its implementation took more than 10 years. In November 2018, finally, the long-awaited official opening of the underground hotel took place. It took about 12 years to build a hotel - 6 years only to prepare the project and the same amount directly to bring it to life.

To open the world's only underground hotel, a lot of effort, time and money was spent. So, first of all, the crater was tested for seismic resistance, fire safety, communications (sewage and water supply) were made. All this together cost almost $ 300 million.

The underground hotel has not only rooms for guests, but also 3 excellent (and with an unusual view) restaurants, a large gym, several spas, as well as saunas.

The two lowest floors of the underground hotel are located directly under the water. One of them is occupied by a water sports center, and there are additional facilities there, but on the second floor, located in the water column, there are rooms, as well as one of the restaurants.

All the windows of the aerial part overlooking the steep cliffs, which are entangled in green and bright vegetation, as well as waterfalls.

The total number of rooms in the underground hotel is 366, from the cheapest to suites. The cost of living in such an unusual place starts from 500 euros or 4 thousand Chinese yuan (about 36 thousand rubles).

Guests of the world's first underground hotel can afford to go out to the balcony and admire the waterfalls that gently gurgle from the top of a previously abandoned quarry. Lovers of extreme relaxation can go to the center, where you can go in for climbing, but also jumping with an elastic cable.

A green roof covers the hotel from above, which, due to its color, resembles a huge green hill, cascading down. At first glance, it seems that this is an ordinary cliff and it becomes even a little scary.

Naturally, not every person has the opportunity to visit the world's first underground hotel, but we dare to hope that someday we will be able to see this man-made miracle with our own eyes. Over 5,000 people worked on its creation, including engineers, architects and designers.
