Jeno Bori built a castle for his beloved, decorated with sculptures and paintings with her image. He worked on this project every weekend, erecting a unique palace house in Szekesfehervar, 60 km from Budapest.
Life-long construction
Residents of the city know where the castle is and with pleasure show the way to tourists who want to see it with their own eyes. After all, they are proud of this architectural monument and are glad to welcome everyone who came to look at it.
A monument to Master Bori was erected near the house of love, expressing gratitude to the man who glorified the city throughout the world. It is from here that a fascinating life-long story begins.

Master Bori bought a house and a plot of land in the city in 1912 at the age of 33. His intention was to create something that would leave a mark on the ages. Therefore, he promised his wife Ilona that he would build for her a castle worthy of the queen. Yeno drew the project of the building and began construction, causing bewilderment of the neighbors who looked at him as a very strange person. After all, he alone carried stones, dug up the foundation and kneaded the construction compounds.
For a long time, the master was treated as a jester who was doing something strange. And then the Second World War came and he was taken to the front. But this did not temper the ardor of Jeno, who returned and continued the construction, calling for help from two neighboring guys.
On weekdays, Yeno Bori taught at the university and the royal school of drawing, and on weekends he continued to work as a builder, architect and sculptor. For several years he erected walls connected by four towers. The magnificent construction aroused respect from the townspeople and they stopped ridicule.

Arriving to look at the castle, they saw that the sculptures have a strong resemblance to the hostess of the palace house Ilona Bori. And they learned that the artist not only built, but also painted paintings, the money earned for the sale of which he spent on the construction of other buildings. So in the castle appeared:
- a tower built after the birth of twin daughters and dedicated to them;
- niches with paintings in the courtyard and halls of the palace;
- 30 living rooms and utility rooms for servants;
- art gallery with sculptures of Hungary.
In the castle, the master mixed several architectural styles, combining Egyptian columns with Gothic spiers and complementing the tenderness of Greek images. However, most of the female busts and sculptures are made in the likeness of Ilona's wife.
Here she froze in a semicircular niche with downcast eyes, radiating modesty and complaisant character. And an angel-husband bowed before her, kissing her legs with trepidation. And behind the sculptures is a fresco, where a yellowed Gioconda surrounded by angels watches a sincere manifestation of feelings.
Silhouettes of Ilona are found in all corners of the castle, immortalizing her modesty and beauty in her memory. And even despite the fact that the sculptor Jena Bori has long been gone, his creation continues to be popular.
The sculptor, who died in 1959 at the age of 80, is called the European Taj Mahal, and his muse-wife, who lived another 15 years after his death, is called Hungarian Aphrodite.
Tourists often come to the castle museum, wanting to see the house of love, built by the efforts of only three people. The children and grandchildren of Bori continue to follow the castle and opened it for visits.
