Every person involved in construction wants to save. This is understandable and correct, but not always the savings can be justified. For example, many builders are wondering if it is possible to limit themselves to one layer of roofing material for waterproofing the roof. We will try to give the answer to this question in the article.
What is roofing material and its types
Ruberoid - it is a roll of material used for roof waterproofing. It is made of roofing cardboard, which is impregnated with fusible petroleum bitumen, and then a layer of refractory bitumen is already created. At first glance, everything looks simple, but this is not entirely true. There are several types of similar materials:
- Lining. You can recognize such a material by designation or dusting. It is necessary so that in the roll the layers do not stick together, but the same solution is also used for the lining-roofing variety. The purpose of this material is clear from its name: it serves as the basis for roofing roofing material, but is often used as a lining for insulation.
- Lining Roofing. This is a universal solution that can be used as the upper part of a roofing carpet, however, such a roofing material is still more promising as a lower layer. For example, RCP material may be used as a temporary solution.
- Roofing. It is ideal for creating the top layer and has a special coating that protects against mechanical stress and preserves the properties of bitumen substances, reducing the amount of UV radiation entering the material.
Based on the foregoing, it can be noted that only one layer can be used roofing materialbut with a number of reservations. For example, it should be a roofing roofing material, and not a coating belonging to the first two types.
It is difficult to unequivocally prove the effectiveness of such a solution.
Maybe you are lucky and the roofing material will last even several years, or maybe next spring it will need repairs, since several leaks appeared at once.
The service life of a single-layer coating also depends on the material acting as a base. For example, OSB sheets allow you to get a minimum of seams, which means there will be few potential weaknesses. On the other hand, there is the option of using boards, the joints between which will create tension in the material, which means that such a roof may not last a year.
Above, we have given arguments that allow us to make an unambiguous conclusion. And he clearly says that it is better not to experiment with single-layer coatings, so as not to pay twice for the same work.
